OpenAthens is the authentication method that the library uses to allow off campus access to online library resources. Your account is automatically created for you by the university .
OpenAthens collects:
All of this data is encrypted and is never passed on to the databases For more information on security and OpenAthens visit the EBSCO OpenAthens Security Page.
Due to our authentication method users automatically have a personal account folder where they can save content and citations to folders, save preferences, and generally personalize their research experience. To support personal accounts, EBSCO’s platform must retain some identifier to return the user to their account each time they log in.
Data Retention and Usage Consent Form
Library users must consent to this form in order to use EBSCO databases off campus or have a personal folder on campus. When will users see this consent form:
Does EBSCO share or sell retained data?
EBSCO works with affiliates and third parties to provide access to, manage, support, and improve upon our products and services. Retained data is shared with these entities to support those activities, but is not shared outside of this context. EBSCO does not sell personal data at any time or for any purpose.

The first time you log into ProQuest Ebook Central™ via the MyIWUPortal a unique OpenAthens numeric identifier tied to your IWU login is passed to Ebook Central. This is used to create a new Ebook Central account linked to your IWU login.
Your Ebook Central account allows you to download entire books for a limited time (depending on publisher restrictions), make annotations, and create a personal bookshelf. Your bookshelf in ProQuest Ebook Central keeps track of your downloads, loans and saved books, and lets you share them with others. Read more about your bookshelf.
On-campus? You can still sign in to your Ebook Central account with your IWU login as long as you have authenticated with the MYIWU Portal
If you created an Ebook Central account and bookshelf prior to our OpenAthens migration, you can still retrieve your old bookshelf and import it into your new account created through OpenAthens. See the article at ProQuest support.
For further assistance, contact jacksonlibrary@indwes.edu for Marion Campue, Off Campus Library Services for National & Global and Seminary or reach out to ebooksupport@proquest.com to request help with retrieving your previous bookshelf, if necessary.
