Since 1921, Congressional Digest has offered an even-handed presentation of opposing views on contentious national questions. Recent topics include: the Keystone pipeline debate, the Ebola epidemic, the Islamic State and U.S. policy, Internet governance, and religious freedom behind bars.
Published by Congressional Quarterly, this is a great print resource to browse for topic ideas, covering one contemporary issue in depth each week. Topics range from social issues to environment, education, health, science and technology. The reporting is designed to encourage critical thinking and discussion.
Topic pages offer a brief overview of a topic and related context, terms and issues that can be a good starting point for research. Links to related content in Jackson Library books and databases are included at the bottom of each topic page. But be aware that the topics are usually broad and will need to be narrowed or refined to a specific research focus.
